Simultaneous Translation
It is the modality where the speaker talks and the interpreter translates immediately by means of simultaneous translation equipment. Recommended for:
- Large and long meetings
- Conferences
- Events where time is of the essence
Consecutive Translation
It is the modality where the speaker says a few sentences, pauses and the interpreter translates. It does not require simultaneous translation equipment. By and large, one microphone is enough. Nevertheless, this method should only be used:
- In short events, such as a speech during a dinner
- In a meeting between few people, because it doubles the time of the meeting.
Intermittent Translation
It is halfway between simultaneous and consecutive translation. The speaker says a few sentences and the interpreter translates. Then the other speaker utters a few sentences and the interpreter translates. Recommended for meetings of small groups.
Whispering
It is in fact simultaneous translation without the equipment. When only one or two people require translation, the interpreter sits next to them and translates what is said.
